AI for e-commerce
AI customer service for e-commerce that resolves order, return and shipping questions
AI customer service for e-commerce answers shoppers in chat, email and messaging at any hour, using your order system, your catalog and your written policies. It completes routine requests, such as order status, returns and address changes, and hands unusual cases to your team with the full conversation.
What the agent handles
- Order status and delivery questions, 24/7
- Returns and exchanges within your policy
- Product questions answered from your catalog
- Address changes before an order ships
- Replies in your customers' languages
Why support queues slow down a growing store
Many messages to an online store ask the same few things: where is my order, can I return this, will it fit, can I change my address. During a sale, the holidays or a carrier delay, the queue grows faster than your team can reply. A customer who waits may open a second ticket or dispute the charge.
Messages at night, on weekends and from other time zones add to the backlog. A sizing question answered the next morning may be a lost sale.
An AI support agent answers these questions from your systems and completes the simple tasks. Your team keeps the exceptions and the decisions about money.
What AI customer service for e-commerce handles
Answers come from your order data, catalog and policies. Actions stay inside your limits.
Order status, shipping and delays
It finds the order after a simple identity check and explains the carrier status in plain words. If you can't ship on time, the FTC's mail order rule requires you to let the buyer accept the delay or cancel for a prompt refund (16 CFR 435.2). The agent can send that notice.
Returns and exchanges within your policy
It checks the order date, the item and your return window, creates the return and sends the label. For exchanges, it checks stock first. Requests outside the policy go to a person.
Product questions from your catalog
It answers questions about sizes, materials, compatibility and care from your product data. When the catalog has no answer, it says so and passes the question to your team.
Address changes before fulfillment
It updates a shipping address only while the order is unfulfilled and only after the customer passes your verification step. A new country, a new recipient or an order flagged for review waits for a person's approval.
Hand-off with the full history
Damaged goods, disputes, angry customers and anything outside your rules go to your help desk with the conversation, the order and a summary. The agent replies in the customer's language, and your team sees a translation.
Abandoned cart follow-up with consent
It reminds shoppers about a cart they left and answers the question that stopped the purchase, such as shipping cost or sizing. It contacts only shoppers who agreed to marketing on that channel.
Connects to your store and support tools
The agent runs in your own AI and cloud accounts and reads only the data each conversation needs.
- Your store platform and order management
- Help desk or shared support inbox
- Product catalog, inventory and size guides
- Carrier tracking data
- Returns portal and label creation
- Chat on your site, email and messaging apps
- Fraud screening results, read only
- Marketing consent and unsubscribe records
Guardrails for refunds, fraud and card data
A support agent can give away money or personal data if nobody sets limits. We write the limits down and attack-test them before launch.
- Refunds, store credit and discounts follow written rules: which reasons qualify, the maximum amount and how often one customer can receive them. Anything above your limit waits for a person's approval.
- Fraud signals go to people: a new shipping address after payment, repeated refund requests or an order your fraud screening flagged. The agent stops and passes the case to your team.
- No card data in chat. PCI Security Standards Council guidance says unprotected card numbers must not be sent by chat, email or text. The agent asks customers not to share card details, removes any it detects and sends payment changes to your secure checkout.
- It says it is an AI assistant, and a person is available on request. Article 50 of the EU AI Act, which applies from August 2, 2026, requires this kind of disclosure unless it is obvious, and California's bot law calls for clear disclosure when a bot encourages a sale online.
- Each conversation reaches only the orders of the verified customer. The agent asks for no more personal data than the task needs, and your store sets how long transcripts are kept.
- It states your policies as written and promises nothing they don't support, such as a delivery date the carrier hasn't given.
What we measure with your support team
We take a baseline from your help desk before the pilot and report the same numbers every month.
- Tickets resolved without a person
- Conversations the agent closed, by topic, and how many were reopened.
- First reply time
- How long shoppers wait for a first answer, by channel and hour of day.
- Refunds and credits issued
- Amounts the agent issued within your limits, and the cases it sent for approval.
- Repeat contacts
- Customers who wrote again about the same order within a week.

AI agents for e-commerce: FAQ
What can AI customer service do for an e-commerce store?
It answers routine questions and completes the tasks behind them: order status, returns and exchanges, shipping and product questions and address changes before an order ships. It works in chat, email and messaging at any hour and in your customers' languages. Refunds above your limits, fraud signals and unusual cases go to your team with the full conversation.
Can an AI agent process returns and refunds?
Yes, within rules you write. The agent checks the order and your return window, creates the return and sends the label. Refunds and store credit follow limits you set, such as a maximum per order. Requests above the limit, outside the policy or linked to a fraud signal wait for a person's approval, with the evidence attached.
Can customers share card details with an AI chat agent?
It is safer if they don't. The PCI Security Standards Council says unprotected card numbers must not be sent over chat, email or text, and a chat system that receives card numbers must be protected under PCI DSS. The agent asks customers not to type card details, removes card numbers it detects from transcripts and sends payment updates to your secure checkout.
Does AI customer service work in other languages?
Yes. The agent replies in the language the customer writes in, using the same approved policies and product data. We test each language you choose before launch. When a conversation goes to your team, they see the original messages and a translation, so they can reply without starting over.
Can an AI agent send abandoned cart messages?
Yes, to shoppers who agreed to receive marketing on that channel. The agent checks your consent records before each message, answers the question that stopped the purchase and stops at once when someone unsubscribes. Rules for marketing email and text messages differ by country, so your team confirms them for each market before launch.
How long does it take to launch AI customer service for an online store?
Most projects start with a 1–2 week audit of your past tickets, policies and systems. A pilot on one channel follows and takes 4–6 weeks, with success criteria agreed in advance. Before launch we attack-test the agent, including attempts to get refunds or other customers' data. It runs in your own accounts.
